Pre-Trial Arranged in Charges Against CAS Ottawa and Executive Director

Former Foster Child Lays Charges Against Children's Aid Society of Ottawa and its Executive Director, Barbara MacKinnon in the Ontario Court of Justice

OTTAWA - March 4, 2010: The Foster Care Council of Canada announces that a former foster child, John Dunn, has laid charges against the Children's Aid Society of Ottawa and its executive director, Barbara MacKinnon.

Counsel for the defendants will appear for a pre-trial hearing to determine which documents are required for full disclosure.

The Society and MacKinnon are charged respectively with the offences of

a) failing to furnish a list of their members; and
b) authorizing, permitting or acquiescing to the offence

Pursuant to section 307 (5) of the Corporations Act, anyone found guilty of an offence is liable on conviction to a fine of not more than $1,000.

The next court appearance is set for March 11 for the purpose of setting a trial date.
